We are so pleased to welcome Alison Mercer to The Haven Dog Centre team. Alison will be running scent workshops, special events and the new scent club.
Having previously worked with dogs, horses, cattle (and one goat!), Alison was brought back into the world of animals through Bob, a very lively, nosey Springer X Labrador. Adopted at 9 months old, working with this highly driven boy led her to become an assistant at a local dog training club, a fully qualified Search and Rescue Dog Handler and then a Talking Dogs Scentwork© Accredited Trainer in February 2016. With a background in training and education, Alison was naturally drawn to the joys of passing on knowledge and skills, enabling people to enjoy building good relationships with their dogs.
After assisting with puppy and dog training classes for 5 years, she took the leap into working as a full time dog trainer in 2016 and has been providing one-to-one pet dog training, behaviour modification and scent workshops as Carefree Dogs ever since. When Alison adopted a nervous young Pointer X Labrador named Peg, she immediately started using scentwork to build trust and confidence with her. She added a Working Cocker Spaniel puppy to the household in 2017 and is teaching him Mantrailing.
Working towards qualifying as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist, she writes a column on dog behaviour and training for Dogs Today Magazine and is doing Animal Centred Education training with Sarah Fisher and TAGteach training with TAGteach International.
Alison is always keen to help people better understand their animals, improving the lives of both animal and owner using kind, effective methods. She is very pleased to be working with The Haven Dog Centre team to deliver high quality, enjoyable workshops for everyone.
